Even teams, but late goals from Penshaw see Sassco defeated.
Technically, it was a combined Sassco set of players, but we separated the sides to try and balance it. It was successful, but Penshaw grabbed three goals in the last fifteen minutes to overcome a weary (and overall older) Sassco team. Up to that point, both teams were at it. Penshaw hit the post and crossbar on a number of occasions, while Sassco had two brilliant chances from Williamson and Wardle, equally brilliantly saved by Ryan Docherty.
Both teams suffered from injuries on the massive pitch, but the majority of players managed to complete the game.
Stephen Lewis continued his goal-a-game ratio for Sassco having fired in the opener (after his previous game in October 2008). This was soon cancelled out when Ciaran let a wobbler through his legs. He actually played well all game despite this.
It was 1-1 for the vast majority of the game, but as legs started struggling, Penshaw took the lead in the last fifteen minutes and when Ben Wilson fired in the third, it was over. One late goal sealed it, just after the two glorius Sassco chances.
Great effort all around. A more detailed match report will be posted soon, but the YouTube Live footage (at 1080p) and photos from the game are below:
