Lava Cup in 2026.

Back at the Lava Cup in Scotland, this time at Petershill Park, but as a player.

I was representing the Eileanach Aonaichte side, which stormed through the Lava Cup group stage on Saturday, finishing second overall with only one defeat — a tight loss to Nottingham Forest Seniors. The team pushed through every game with real effort, discipline and some clinical finishing, before finally running out of steam in the quarter‑finals. A superb run all the same.

My connection with this tournament goes back a long way. I was first invited by Indriði Waage, my good friend from Iceland, back in 2017, when we toured together. A year later, in 2018, we faced the Icelanders — Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur — at the Stadium of Light, a brilliant occasion that cemented the link. I then played for them in the first Lava Cup Tournament in 2023, before bringing Sassco.co.uk as an entrant in 2024 and 2025. Now, in 2026, I’m back in the squad as a player again.

Always good to be up there with Marc Boal — top‑class organisation as always, and a chance to catch up with some old (literally) friends who keep coming back for more. That’s the great thing about the Lava Cup: familiar faces, competitive football, and a weekend that never disappoints.

Another Lava Cup done. Another set of memories. And another reminder of why this Icelandic‑English football link keeps going strong.
