Sassco team suffers a narrow defeat in the heat.
Despite a flurry of morning injuries and last-minute drop-outs, Sassco fielded a surprisingly strong squad for their long-awaited return to 11-a-side grass football (not including the SOL games)
Operating in 4-4-2 formation—with the injured Grundy managing rotation from the sidelines—Sassco suffered an early setback after conceding in the opening minutes. However, the team rallied quickly, finding an equaliser and taking control of the tempo for a solid stretch of play.
A series of missed chances proved costly as Hilda Park capitalised late, pulling ahead to a 3–1 lead. Sassco battled back to make it 3–2 and created late pressure in the box, but a scramble for a second equaliser ultimately fell short.
Despite the final score, it stood out as one of Sassco’s strongest team performances in recent memory.
Squad was: Paul McConville, Alfy Massingham, Craig Gray, Aman Atkar, Jay Naden, Rafe Bath, Dan Guthrie, Scott Doe, David Grundy, Davinder Sangha, Tom Boutflower, Paul Brown, John Harper, Mike Barker and Liam Peverley (GK)
