Every team won at least one game.
Every team picked up at least one win. A mix‑up meant Cheesy Waffles fielded a couple of under‑30 players, so the tournament results were ultimately split into two categories.
With six teams entering, it turned into a marathon schedule. Debutants Cheesy Waffles FC were outstanding, winning all five of their matches against strong opposition and taking the overall “all‑age” title. Because of the misunderstanding around their under‑30 players, the tournament was divided at the end: one award for the Over‑30s pool (excluding Cheesy Waffles) and one overall award for Cheesy Waffles.
The all‑age section finished with a play‑off between the two standout teams: Cheesy Waffles and NEPCA. It was a balanced, short game, but while NEPCA couldn’t convert their chances, Cheesy Waffles were clinical and scored from all three of theirs.
In the official Over‑30s tournament, the remaining teams — NEPCA, Roseberry (The Non‑Beleaguers), South Shields and Sassco — all recorded wins. NEPCA created a gap at the top with victories over Sassco and MADAS, plus draws against Shields and Roseberry. Roseberry and MADAS finished level on points, with Roseberry edging ahead on goal difference. Sassco slipped to the bottom despite an impressive opening win over Roseberry.
Overall, it was a hectic but enjoyable tournament, helped by unusually good weather and supported by two new referees, David Donnelly and Sam Wilkinson, who handled the games smoothly.
The next tournament is scheduled for July.
